We begin our journey from Georgioupolis, heading uphill towards the Askyfou Plateau at Sfakia, one of the most beautiful landscapes of Crete and home of the most brave and proud people.
During our journey, we will have the opportunity to admire the impressive White Mountains.
Upon arriving at Askyfou, we will visit the War Museum that houses historical treasures back from 1770 (revolution of Daskalogiannis against the Ottomans). The Museum contains also historical artifacts from all the wars that followed, up to the present day, with some of the most important exhibits dating from the Greek- German War of 1940. The visit at the museum is optional with entrance fee of 5 euros.
If the museum is not an option you, you can enjoy the beautiful nature of the Plateau of Askyfou while waiting for the rest people of the group. The journey will continue by visiting the village of Askyfou.
We’ll make a stop at a local traditional establishment and we will enjoy a delicious “mizithropita” made from local Cretan cheese and honey.
If we have enough time, on the way back to our base, we will visit a beautiful local winery in Alikambos where we will have the opportunity to taste aromatic wines and discover some of the local flavors of Crete.
